How to cope with the pandemic? By Shrujana K – Batch: 2018-2019

The sky is cornflower blue with towering cumulonimbus clouds,

But the city square is abandoned, for now, two’s company, but three’s a crowd.

From human touch to technology, the metropolis has been redefined,

There is solitude in the skyscrapers, this is an imperial affliction of mankind.

The pandemic is a portal between life and death…

We are stranded, our freedom has taken its final breath.

The anxious and claustrophobic world has come to a pause;

This temporary togetherness, has arrived like sleep…slowly at first, then once and for all.

Something INVISIBLE can be INVINCIBLE, turning the greatest scientific minds into a novice.

The pandemic is a clear irony, a cocktail of boredom and curiosity.

Rich hues of red have swallowed the sky, and the Sun burns like cinder,

The city square has gathered dust, once life was bustling, now only memories linger.

An avalanche of announcements, of the growing death toll…

An implausible increase in that horrific number, depresses our soul.

The pandemic is a portal to a state-of-the-art lifestyle,

Latex gloves that glow in twilight, masks made from diverse textiles.

Soundless greetings, self-isolating, feels apocalyptic;

“Shiver me timbers, this is a wee bit terrifying!”

The world leaders offer a spiel, which is honestly unbelievable,

“Wash your hands and relax”….But the fear of a silent killer is insatiable.

As night falls, the day lifts, to reveal the stars, and

The constellations have witnessed this modern Holocaust.

The city square glows with street lights…..

In the hopes of a future, euphoric and bright.

Our lives may have been flipped like a coin, now, it’s upside down.

A new decade forged in despair…

Lockdown over the big, wide world, how could we have prepared?

We yearn to be comforted, but send those dearly departed far away, completely unsupported…

Dawn rises and the clouds blush as they feel the warm rays of the Sun,

These fleeting moments will soon pave the way, to a time…

 When the phrase, “When this is all over.” will be an embarrassing cliché!

So, gather your pots, let’s grow our own Garden of Eden,

With hands full of this year’s dirt and decay.

And learn from the pandemic, to live life Laissez-faire!

PS:  Laissez-faire: I have used this phrase to describe life.

To live life laissez- faire is to let life take its own course and to focus on happiness.
